Troops of Nigeria’s Joint Task Force under Operation Hadin Kai have successfully rescued six civilians abducted by Boko Haram in Borno State, marking another breakthrough in ongoing counterinsurgency operations in the North-East.
The rescue mission took place on May 1, 2026, near Amuda, a deserted corridor between Ngoshe and Gava in Borno State. The victims identified as Zainab Idris (18), Fatima Abubakar (17), Maimuna Abdulrashid (24), and three children Muhammad Idris (1), Sadiq Abdullahi (7), and Fatima Abdulrashid (5) had been kidnapped during a террорист attack on Ngoshe community on March 3.
According to military sources, the captives escaped from a террорист enclave in Gava before being intercepted by troops returning from an overnight offensive operation. During the encounter, soldiers came under light fire from pursuing insurgents but swiftly engaged and forced them to retreat into the rugged Mandara Mountains.
The Nigerian military attributed the success to sustained offensives, including coordinated ground assaults and recent air interdictions targeting теrrorist hideouts along the Nigeria-Cameroon border. These operations have reportedly weakened insurgent networks, creating opportunities for captives to escape.
Following their rescue, the victims received immediate medical attention at a military facility. They were later reunited with their families in an emotional handover ceremony facilitated by the Wali of Ngoshe, Alhaji Shuaibu Dabawa, in Gwoza Local Government Area.
Military authorities reaffirmed their commitment to restoring peace and security across the region. They also urged residents to continue supporting security agencies with timely and credible information to aid ongoing operations.
