Presidential candidate of the Nigeria Democratic Congress, Peter Obi, has visited traders affected by the recent fire outbreak at Eda Plaza in Jabi, Abuja, where more than 45 shops were reportedly destroyed.
Obi met with some of the affected business owners at the scene as they worked to clear the debris and recover any goods or belongings that could still be salvaged from the ruins.
During the visit, the former Anambra State governor expressed sympathy with the victims and assured them of his support as they begin the difficult process of rebuilding their businesses and recovering their livelihoods.
Obi noted that the impact of the fire went beyond the physical destruction of shops and merchandise. According to him, many of the affected traders lost years of hard work, personal savings and sacrifices built around their businesses.
He stressed the importance of government and leaders standing with citizens during periods of severe hardship, arguing that effective leadership should not be judged solely by infrastructure and development projects but also by how government responds when citizens suffer devastating losses.
The presidential candidate also urged the affected traders to remain hopeful as they navigate the aftermath of the incident. He prayed for them to receive the strength, assistance and resources required to rebuild their businesses and restore their sources of livelihood.

The visit comes as the affected traders begin assessing the extent of their losses and considering the steps required to recover from the devastating Abuja market fire.
