President Bola Ahmed Tinubu has approved the appointment of Professor Segun Aina as the new Registrar of Joint Admissions and Matriculation Board, marking a significant leadership transition for one of Nigeria’s most important educational institutions.
Professor Aina, a respected computer engineering scholar from Obafemi Awolowo University, will officially take over from Professor Is-haq Oloyede after the expiration of Oloyede’s second tenure on July 31, 2026.
At 39 years old, Aina’s appointment has attracted widespread attention across the country, with many Nigerians describing it as a bold and youthful choice by the administration of Bola Ahmed Tinubu.

Education stakeholders and social media users have praised the decision, expressing optimism that his technological background and reform-driven mindset will help sustain the progress recorded by JAMB in recent years.
Professor Oloyede leaves office after overseeing a transformative era at JAMB. During his tenure, the examination body strengthened its computer-based testing system, improved transparency in admissions processes, and reportedly increased remittances to the federal government by billions of naira. His administration was also widely recognized for enforcing discipline and credibility within the examination system.
Observers believe Aina’s experience in computer engineering and his previous involvement with JAMB operations position him well to continue the agency’s modernization agenda. With more than two million candidates registering annually for the Unified Tertiary Matriculation Examination (UTME), expectations remain high for the incoming registrar to improve efficiency, digital innovation, and examination integrity.
The appointment is also seen as a reflection of the federal government’s increasing interest in promoting younger professionals into strategic leadership positions within public institutions. Many education analysts believe Aina’s international academic exposure, including degrees obtained from universities in the United Kingdom, could bring fresh ideas and technological advancement to the examination board.
