Tinubu Approves New Police Academy Campus, Allocates N15bn Start-Up Fund

Tinubu approves new Police Academy campus in Ogun with ₦15bn funding to boost training capacity and support Nigeria’s growing police workforce.

President Bola Ahmed Tinubu has approved the establishment of a new campus of the Nigeria Police Academy in Erinja, located in Yewa South Local Government Area of Ogun State. The move is part of ongoing efforts to strengthen police training capacity and improve national security infrastructure.

According to a statement released by presidential spokesperson Bayo Onanuga, the President also sanctioned a special take-off grant of ₦15 billion to support the immediate development of the new campus.

The initiative aligns with the provisions of the Nigeria Police Academy (Establishment) Act, 2021, which permits the expansion of the academy beyond its main campus in Wudil, Kano State, into multiple locations nationwide.

Funding for the project will be sourced from the 2026 allocation of the Tertiary Education Trust Fund. The ₦15 billion grant is earmarked for critical infrastructure, academic facilities, student hostels, and essential training equipment needed to ensure a smooth take-off.

The decision to site the new campus in Erinja followed recommendations from a high-level consultative meeting involving key stakeholders.

Participants included the Ministry of Police Affairs, the Federal Ministry of Education, Minister of Education Tunji Alausa, the Nigeria Police Force leadership, and the National Universities Commission.
