President Bola Ahmed Tinubu has officially sworn in Joseph Olasunkanmi Tegbe as the new Minister of Power and Ambassador Sola Enikanolaiye as Minister of State for Foreign Affairs.
The brief ceremony was held on Monday at the Presidential Villa, Abuja, in the presence of family members of the appointees, senior government officials, and other dignitaries.
The appointments followed the resignation of former Minister of Foreign Affairs, Yusuf Tuggar, and former Minister of Power, Adebayo Adelabu, who left office to pursue their political ambitions.
President Tinubu subsequently nominated Tegbe and Enikanolaiye for the vacant positions, and both were confirmed by the Senate on May 6, 2026.
Tegbe, an indigene of Ibadan in Oyo State, brings more than three decades of experience in economic management, fiscal reforms, institutional development, and stakeholder engagement. He holds a First-Class degree in Civil Engineering from Obafemi Awolowo University, as well as master’s degrees in Business Administration and Public Administration.
Before his appointment, he served as Senior Partner and Head of Advisory Services at kpmg.com Africa, where he played key roles in designing and implementing major government reform programmes. He has also worked with several public institutions and multinational corporations, including shell.com, huawei.com, and mtn.ng.
As Minister of Power, Tegbe is expected to oversee efforts aimed at improving electricity supply and advancing reforms in Nigeria’s power sector.
Enikanolaiye, a career diplomat from Kogi State, takes office with extensive experience in foreign service and international relations. He graduated with a First-Class degree in Political Science from Ahmadu Bello University, where he emerged as the best graduating student in his faculty, and later earned a master’s degree in International Law and Diplomacy with distinction from the University of Lagos.
He joined the Ministry of Foreign Affairs in 1982 and rose through the ranks to become Permanent Secretary in 2016 before retiring from the civil service in 2017 after 35 years of service.
During his diplomatic career, Enikanolaiye served in Nigeria’s missions in Ethiopia, Serbia, Canada, the United Kingdom, and India, where he last served as Nigeria’s Head of Mission in New Delhi.
Until his latest appointment, he was serving as Senior Special Assistant to President Tinubu on Foreign Affairs and International Relations in the Office of the Chief of Staff to the President.
