The Ohuhu Council of Traditional Rulers has honoured the member representing Ikwuano/Umuahia North and South Federal Constituency in the House of Representatives, Rt. Hon. Obi Aguocha, with the prestigious traditional title, “Oke Nwanne Ka Nwanne,” meaning “a brother that is more than a brother.”
The honour, conferred on September 5, 2026, recognised Aguocha’s contributions to his constituents and his continued commitment to issues concerning the development, welfare and aspirations of the Ohuhu people and the wider Igbo community.
The traditional rulers described the federal lawmaker as a dependable son of Ohuhu and a compassionate representative whose activities in public office have reflected concern for the people.
According to the traditional institution, Aguocha has distinguished himself through his interventions in education, community development and advocacy for justice, particularly for people who believe they have been marginalised.
The monarchs stressed that genuine leadership goes beyond holding political office, noting that Aguocha’s commitment to service, sacrifice and the defence of the interests of his people had earned him the confidence and respect of traditional institutions.
Responding to the honour, Aguocha said the title carried a profound message rooted in the Igbo philosophy of “Onyeaghala Nwanne Ya,” which translates to “No one should abandon his brother.”
He explained that the philosophy places a responsibility on individuals to stand by their brothers and sisters, particularly during periods of hardship and uncertainty.
The lawmaker said the principle has remained an important part of his personal convictions and approach to public service.
Aguocha also referenced his continued advocacy concerning the case of Mazi Nnamdi Kanu, stressing that he would remain committed to pursuing what he considers justice and a fair resolution of the matter.
He described the traditional title as more than a recognition, saying it also represented a renewed responsibility to remain steadfast in standing with his people whenever their interests and wellbeing are at stake.
The federal lawmaker reaffirmed his commitment to representing his constituents and championing issues that affect the future, development and welfare of the Igbo people.
Speaking on the political outlook ahead of the 2027 elections, Aguocha declared that Ohuhu would support and re-elect Abia State Governor, Alex Chioma Otti, expressing confidence in the governor’s leadership and development agenda.
He called on the people to continue supporting programmes and policies aimed at transforming Abia State, while expressing optimism that his relationship with the traditional institution would continue to grow through service, cooperation and mutual respect.
