The Speaker of the House of Representatives, Tajudeen Abbas, has directed the immediate dissolution of all ad hoc committees of the Green Chamber, ending their mandates effective August 28, 2026.
The directive was communicated in a statement issued by the Clerk of the House, Sidi Ibrahim, and circulated to the chairmen and members of the affected committees.
According to the Clerk, the Speaker’s decision followed the expiration of the deadlines previously set for the committees to complete their assignments and submit their respective reports.
The statement noted that members of the affected committees had earlier been given sufficient time to conclude their investigations and other responsibilities within the periods approved for their mandates.
However, only two of the ad hoc committees requested additional time to complete their assignments. The requests were granted through a two-week extension, which has now elapsed.
With the extension period exhausted, the House leadership concluded that there was no justification for the continued existence of the committees.
The Clerk further reminded lawmakers that ad hoc committees are established as temporary structures to handle specific assignments within clearly defined timeframes.
He stressed that such committees are not designed to remain active indefinitely after the completion or expiration of the mandates for which they were created.
The Speaker’s directive is also anchored on the Standing Orders of the House of Representatives, particularly Order 18, Rule 11, Paragraph 5, which addresses limitations relating to the submission of committee reports.
The development effectively brings the activities of all affected ad hoc committees to a close and reinforces the House leadership’s position on adhering to established timelines for legislative assignments.

The dissolution also signals a renewed emphasis on accountability and timely completion of responsibilities assigned to temporary legislative committees.
