As political activities begin to intensify ahead of Nigeria’s 2027 general elections, Chief Iheanyi Frank Chinasa, popularly known as Dogo, has officially defected to the All Progressives Congress (APC), marking a notable shift in Abia State’s political landscape.
Chinasa, who currently serves as the National Assembly Liaison Officer to Abia State Governor Alex Otti, made his new political allegiance public during a high-level meeting of APC critical stakeholders held in Owerri, Imo State. The gathering was convened by Imo State Governor Hope Uzodinma.
In a move that has drawn attention across political circles, Chinasa is now aligned with his kinsman and political associate, Benjamin Okezie Kalu, the Deputy Speaker of the House of Representatives and a prominent APC figure representing Bende Federal Constituency.

Observers have described the defection as particularly significant given Chinasa’s influential role within the Labour Party-led administration in Abia State. His departure signals a potential realignment of political forces in the state as parties begin to strategize for 2027.
Interestingly, Chinasa and Kalu were political rivals during the 2023 general elections, where both contested for the Bende Federal Constituency seat.
Following the election, Chinasa had been openly critical of the Deputy Speaker. However, recent developments suggest a shift in political alliances, indicating a possible reconciliation and strategic collaboration ahead of future contests.
