The Abia State Police Command has arrested four suspected drug peddlers during an intelligence-led operation in Osisioma Local Government Area, recovering suspected hard drugs and freshly harvested cannabis believed to have been prepared for distribution.
The arrests were disclosed in a statement issued on Saturday, July 18, 2026, by the Police Public Relations Officer, DSP Maureen Chioma Chinaka. According to the statement, the operation was carried out by operatives of the Command’s Violent Crime Response Unit (VCRU) following credible intelligence regarding the alleged cultivation and distribution of illicit drugs within the area.
The suspects were identified as David Chika Nwakamma, 50, an indigene of Amapuife in Osisioma Local Government Area of Abia State; Stanley Moses, popularly known as “Rati Boy,” 33, from Njaba Local Government Area of Imo State; Ibe Chisom, 29, from Mbaise Local Government Area of Imo State; and Austin GodsWill, 27, also from Mbaise Local Government Area of Imo State. Police authorities confirmed that all four suspects reside in Osisioma, Abia State.
According to the Command, the suspects were apprehended on July 16, 2026, during a targeted operation based on actionable intelligence. Security operatives reportedly recovered quantities of substances suspected to be hard drugs already packaged for sale, alongside freshly harvested cannabis believed to have been cultivated for illegal distribution.
The Police noted that the operation is part of its sustained campaign against drug-related crimes and criminal networks involved in the cultivation, trafficking, and sale of illicit substances across Abia State. The Command emphasized that intelligence-driven operations will continue as part of broader efforts to enhance public safety and reduce criminal activities.
Investigations are ongoing to establish the full scope of the suspects’ alleged activities and identify any other individuals who may be linked to the suspected drug trafficking network.
Reaffirming its commitment to maintaining law and order, the Abia State Police Command assured residents that it remains determined to ensure there is no safe haven for criminals anywhere in the state.
The Command also appealed to members of the public to support security agencies by providing timely and credible information on suspicious persons or activities through the nearest police station or the Command’s emergency communication channels.
The statement concluded with a call for collective vigilance, urging residents to embrace the message: “See Something, Say Something,” as a shared responsibility in keeping Abia State safe and secure.
