The Federal Government of Nigeria has officially announced Friday, May 1, 2026, as a public holiday to commemorate this year’s International Workers’ Day celebration.
The announcement was made by the Minister of Interior, Olubunmi Tunji-Ojo, who conveyed the government’s message while extending warm congratulations to workers nationwide. He praised Nigerian workers for their resilience, commitment, and invaluable contributions to the country’s development.
According to the minister, the dedication and hard work of the workforce remain a key driver of national growth and economic stability. He emphasized that workers play a central role in building a prosperous and sustainable future for the nation.
The government also encouraged citizens to uphold values such as patriotism, productivity, and diligence in their daily responsibilities. These principles, the minister noted, are essential for achieving long-term national progress.
Reaffirming its commitment, the Federal Government pledged continued support for workers’ welfare and security while striving to create an enabling environment for economic expansion and job growth.
As part of the Workers’ Day message, Nigerians were urged to celebrate responsibly, maintain peace, and abide by the law. The occasion, the government added, should serve as a moment for reflection on unity, cooperation, and the collective effort needed to advance the nation.
