Governor Alex Otti is set to commission the newly transformed Community Primary School, Umuomaikwu Smart School, in Isiala Ngwa North Local Government Area, marking another milestone in Abia State’s drive to modernize public education through technology and innovation.
The commissioning ceremony is scheduled to take place on Wednesday, July 22, 2026, at 3:00 p.m. The school is one of the flagship institutions under the Abia State Smart School Initiative, a programme designed to equip pupils with 21st-century digital skills and improve the quality of learning across the state.
The project was executed by the Abia State Government through the Ministry of Basic and Secondary Education as part of Governor Alex Otti’s ongoing reforms aimed at transforming the education sector. The initiative reflects the administration’s commitment to creating a technology-driven learning environment capable of preparing young learners for the demands of the digital economy.
Previously operating as a conventional public primary school, the facility has been completely upgraded into a modern smart school equipped with advanced educational technology and improved learning infrastructure.
The school features 10 fully equipped smart classrooms fitted with interactive smart boards, digital learning devices, and a robust Learning Management System (LMS). It also includes a state-of-the-art ICT laboratory, a multipurpose hall, modern administrative offices, and a fully equipped sick bay to cater to the academic and welfare needs of pupils.
In a major boost for digital education, every pupil from Primary One to Primary Six will receive a personal learning tablet, ensuring equal access to digital learning resources and enhancing classroom engagement.
The school was also designed with inclusivity in mind, incorporating accessibility features such as ramps and specially designed toilet facilities for pupils living with disabilities. These additions reinforce the state’s commitment to providing equal learning opportunities for every child regardless of physical ability.
According to the Abia State Government, the commissioning of the Community Primary School, Umuomaikwu Smart School demonstrates its determination to provide quality, technology-enabled education while creating a safe, inclusive, and future-ready learning environment for children across the state.
