Gov. Otti Commissions Ultra-Modern SDA Church Building in Umuehim, Nvosi

Abia State Governor, Dr. Alex Chioma Otti, OFR, has commissioned a newly completed ultra-modern Seventh-day Adventist (SDA) Church building at Umuehim, Nvosi, in Isiala Ngwa South Local Government Area of the state.

The commissioning ceremony, held on Saturday, September 19, 2026, brought together members of the Seventh-day Adventist Church, government officials, community leaders and other well-wishers to celebrate the completion and dedication of the new worship centre.

The church building was reportedly completed through financial contributions from Governor Otti and members of the Umuehim-Nvosi SDA congregation, including those living in the diaspora.

Speaking during the commissioning, Governor Otti commended the congregation for its commitment, cooperation and determination to see the project through to completion.

The Governor urged the church leadership and members to take proper care of the new facility and ensure that it remains well maintained for the glory of God and the benefit of present and future generations.

He also encouraged the congregation to continue promoting faith, unity, service and other values that contribute positively to society.

Earlier, the President of the Aba North Conference of the Seventh-day Adventist Church, Pastor Henry Emeka Nwankwo, delivered a sermon focused on the spiritual significance of moving into a new church building.

Speaking on the theme, “Old People in the New Church Building, How Will You Cope?”, Pastor Nwankwo drew lessons from Psalm 92:13-14 and Ephesians 4:22 to challenge members to see the new building as more than a physical structure.

According to him, the dedication of the new edifice should provide an opportunity for worshippers to examine their lives, abandon negative behaviours and embrace a renewed commitment to Christian values.

He urged members to ensure that behaviours capable of creating division within the congregation, including backbiting and quarrelling, do not find a place in the new church.

Pastor Nwankwo further encouraged the congregation to honour the sacrifices made by individuals who contributed to the construction project by living lives that reflect the purpose and values of the church.

The cleric also appreciated Governor Alex Otti and the First Lady of Abia State, Mrs. Priscilla Chidinma Otti, for their contributions towards the completion of the church project and prayed for God’s blessings upon them.

A major highlight of the ceremony was a special prayer session for Governor Otti and members of his cabinet, seeking divine protection and favour for the Governor and his administration, including in his bid for re-election.

Governor Otti attended the ceremony alongside the First Lady, Mrs. Priscilla C. Otti, Labour Party Senatorial candidate Distinguished Senator Darlington Nwokeocha, Commissioner for Power and Public Utilities Hon. Ikechukwu Monday, SA on Media and Publicity Hon. Ferdinand Ekeoha, SSA Transport Dr. Obioma Nwaogbe, SA on Investment Promotion High Chief Green Amakwe, Director-General of the Bureau of Public Communication Bar. Onyebuchi Ememanka, among other government officials.
