A member of Nigeria’s House of Representatives, Leke Abejide, has officially resigned from the African Democratic Congress (ADC) following a deepening leadership crisis within the party.
Abejide, who represents Yagba Federal Constituency in Kogi State, announced his resignation during a press briefing in Abuja on Friday. His decision comes in the wake of a Supreme Court ruling that reinstated a faction of the party led by David Mark as the legitimate leadership of the ADC.
The lawmaker had previously aligned himself with a rival faction and expressed strong dissatisfaction with the court’s decision. He accused the Mark-led camp of taking control of the party without due process, despite what he described as years of effort invested in building and strengthening its internal structure.
Further complicating the situation, Abejide revealed that his legal counsel advised him to exit the party entirely. According to him, the ongoing leadership tussle has rendered the party ineffective, making it difficult for any recognized authority to sign his nomination form ahead of future elections.
With his departure, political observers expect Abejide to make a swift move to the ruling All Progressives Congress (APC). Sources suggest that discussions are already underway and that he may secure an automatic ticket to contest again for his seat in the House of Representatives under the APC platform.

Despite the political uncertainty, Abejide reaffirmed his commitment to serving his constituents, emphasizing that his primary focus remains on delivering effective representation. His resignation highlights ongoing realignments within Nigeria’s political landscape as parties prepare for future electoral contests.
