NYSC Makes One-Year Industrial Training Proof Mandatory for HND Graduates Before Camp Registration

The National Youth Service Corps (NYSC) has announced that all Higher National Diploma (HND) graduates from Polytechnics and Monotechnics must present evidence of completing the mandatory one-year Industrial Training (IT) before they can be registered at any NYSC Orientation Camp.

The directive was contained in an official circular issued by the NYSC Directorate Headquarters in Abuja and dated July 15, 2026. The circular was addressed to Rectors, Provosts, and Registrars of Polytechnics and Monotechnics across Nigeria.

According to the NYSC, the new measure became necessary after it observed that some students were being admitted into HND programmes without first completing the compulsory one-year Industrial Training required after obtaining the National Diploma (ND).

The scheme stated that the policy is aimed at preserving the integrity of Nigeria’s educational system and ensuring that only graduates who have fulfilled all academic and professional requirements are eligible for national service.

Under the new directive, prospective corps members who obtained an HND certificate must provide verifiable proof that they successfully completed the mandatory Industrial Training before they will be allowed to complete registration at NYSC Orientation Camps.

The NYSC also urged heads of Polytechnics and Monotechnics to widely publicize the directive among students to prevent cases where eligible graduates arrive at orientation camps only to be denied registration due to the absence of the required IT evidence.
