Tinubu to Nigerians Abroad: ‘There Is Nowhere Like Home,’ Urges Diaspora to Support National Development
President Bola Ahmed Tinubu has reaffirmed his commitment to rebuilding Nigeria while encouraging Nigerians living abroad to return home and contribute their knowledge and expertise to the country’s development.
Speaking during a meeting with members of the Nigerian Diaspora Medical Association, the President reflected on his professional journey in the United States, describing how his international experience shaped his career but ultimately strengthened his belief that home remains the best place to make a lasting impact.
According to President Tinubu, his early career included professional training with Deloitte & Touche in the United States, where he gained valuable experience in accountancy and finance. He also recalled his memorable first week working in the iconic Standard Oil Building in Chicago, describing it as a significant milestone in his professional development.
Despite the opportunities he enjoyed abroad, the President stressed that the knowledge and skills acquired overseas should be channelled towards improving Nigeria.
“There is nowhere like home,” Tinubu said, adding that while America provided him with world-class professional exposure, he believes the greatest value of that experience lies in applying it to national development.
The President used the opportunity to encourage Nigerians in the diaspora, particularly professionals in the medical field, to remain actively involved in advancing healthcare, economic growth, and other critical sectors in Nigeria.
Addressing the country’s economic challenges, Tinubu assured Nigerians that his administration remains focused on tackling poverty and improving the welfare of citizens.
“Poverty is not acceptable. We won’t accept it. We will fight it, we will bring prosperity, and we will bring care to our people,” the President declared.
He reiterated that his government is committed to implementing policies aimed at creating jobs, expanding economic opportunities, improving healthcare, and raising the overall standard of living for Nigerians.
