Tinubu sacks NMDPRA boss Saidu Mohammed, nominates Rabiu Umar as replacement pending Senate confirmation.
President Bola Ahmed Tinubu has approved the immediate removal of Saidu Mohammed as the Chief Executive of the Nigerian Midstream and Downstream Petroleum Regulatory Authority (NMDPRA).
In a swift move aimed at reshaping leadership within the petroleum regulatory space, the President has nominated Rabiu Abdullahi Umar as Mohammed’s replacement. The nomination, however, remains subject to confirmation by the Nigerian Senate.
The decision marks a significant leadership transition within the NMDPRA, the agency responsible for overseeing Nigeria’s midstream and downstream petroleum operations. While no official reason was disclosed for the removal, the development is expected to influence regulatory direction and operational oversight in the country’s oil and gas sector.

If confirmed, Umar will assume responsibility for steering the authority’s policies and ensuring compliance across the petroleum value chain, a critical component of Nigeria’s energy industry.
