Troops of the 14 Brigade of the Nigerian Army, working alongside personnel of the 14 Military Intelligence Regiment (14 MIR) and other security agencies, have arrested two suspected members of the proscribed Indigenous People of Biafra (IPOB) and its armed wing, the Eastern Security Network (ESN), during a coordinated security operation in Abia State.
The intelligence-led cordon-and-search exercise was carried out in the early hours of Tuesday, July 14, 2026, in Atan and Uhuru villages within Ihechiowa Community, Arochukwu Local Government Area. According to the Nigerian Army, the operation was based on credible intelligence aimed at disrupting the activities of suspected criminal elements operating in the area.
During the operation, security operatives arrested 56-year-old James Uchechukwu Amah of Atan Village and Kalu Nnachi of Uhuru Village. The two suspects are believed to have links with the proscribed IPOB/ESN network and are currently being investigated.
Troops recovered several items during the raid, including one pump-action gun, five live cartridges, two jack knives, one machete, and three mobile phones believed to be relevant to ongoing investigations.
The Army disclosed that James Uchechukwu Amah sustained a gunshot wound to his left foot while allegedly attempting to evade arrest after being linked to the recovered pump-action firearm. He was immediately evacuated to the 14 Brigade Medical Centre, where he received treatment and is reported to be in stable condition.
Military authorities confirmed that both suspects remain in custody and are undergoing further investigation. Upon the conclusion of the investigation, they will be handed over to the appropriate authorities for prosecution in accordance with the law.
The Nigerian Army stated that the successful operation underscores its continued commitment to intelligence-driven operations aimed at dismantling criminal networks, improving public safety, and restoring lasting peace across Abia State and the wider South-East region.

The military also urged residents to continue supporting security agencies by providing timely and credible information that will aid ongoing efforts to combat criminal activities and strengthen security across communities.
