I, Ugezu J. Ugezu, wish to sincerely and unreservedly apologise to Mr. Daniel Kanu over statements I made in a publication on my social media page concerning him.
Upon a careful review of the matter, I have come to the conclusion that I made assertions which I ought not to have made. I have since discovered that I do not possess any credible evidence to support those assertions, and I acknowledge that making them was wrong.
As a writer, filmmaker, and public commentator, I understand that my words carry weight and can influence public perception. For that reason, I accept full responsibility for the publication and for the hurt, embarrassment, inconvenience, and damage it may have caused to Mr. Daniel Kanu, his family, friends, associates, and admirers.
I hereby withdraw and retract those statements in their entirety and unequivocally state that I have no basis upon which to maintain them.
To Mr. Daniel Kanu personally, I offer my sincere apology. I regret that my publication may have caused you pain or brought your name into controversy. That was never my intention, but I recognise that intentions do not erase consequences, and for that reason I am deeply sorry.
I also apologise to members of the public who may have been misled by the publication. Going forward, I shall exercise greater diligence in verifying information before making public commentaries, in keeping with my commitment to truth, fairness, and responsible public engagement.
